The first Highland’s Helping Hands Day on Saturday, August 28th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. was a huge success! Over 150 Highlanders of all ages participated. Click here to view details of the work projects, and here to see pictures!

Chrysalis Women’s Bible Study Groups meet Mondays, 6:30–8:00 p.m. and Thursdays, 9:30–11:00 a.m., in the Parlor. New folks are always welcome! The Monday evening group will continue to meet through the summer months; Thursday's group will finish up on June 17th. See the Presbyterian Women page for more information.

THIS WEEK

Sunday, September 5th, 10:00: Jon Watt is preaching on this twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time, guided by scripture readings in Psalm 139 and Luke 14:25–33. See the bulletin here. Following worship, plan to join us on the front patio for Lemonade on the Lawn. Please note that this will be our last Sunday of the summer worship schedule. Next Sunday, September 12th, we will return to two services at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. Details coming soon on our upcoming term of Sunday morning education opportunities!

The church office will be closed on Monday, September 6th for the Labor Day holiday.

Our Wednesday Fling Fellowship Meals begin on Wednesday, September 8th at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall; check the Fall Opportunities brochure, p. 1, for details!

Children and Worship Training for Storytellers, Wednesday, September 8th, 6:45–8:00pm Reception Room in Activity Building. Plan to come for Fling at 6:00 p.m. Everyone invited! Brian K. Blount, President and Professor of New Testament at Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia, will give a presentation on the book of Revelation on Saturday, September 11th, at Highland. He is the author of numerous books, including Can I Get a Witness? Reading Revelation through African American Culture and Revelation: A Commentary. Dr. Blount will also preach during the 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services on Sunday, September 12th. Prayer Shawl Ministry will be starting again on Thursday, September 16th (and will meet every third Thursday of the month) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Parlor. Please join our group of knitters and crocheters - men, women, girls, boys and all levels of experience are welcome as we bless one or two projects each month. The Presbyterian Inter-Racial Dialogue Book Study for this year is the true story of an unlikely friendship in Same Kind of Different As Me. In their book, Ron Hall and Denver Moore tell how the grace of God and the leadership and inspiration of a gutsy and determined woman changes each of them and draws them together for a common cause.
