Prayer Shawl Ministry

Highland’s Prayer Shawl Ministry Needs You
We will be meeting monthly during the summer and we would love to have you join us! We are looking for “knit-wits,” “hookers,” and “wannabes!” If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet, contact Katie Paterson. Our summer meeting dates are June 27, August 22 and September 26. We meet from 10:00–11:30 a.m. in the Salem Room. Highland’s prayer shawl ministry is such an important one as the shawls are given to those in need of prayer and comfort. Adults, children, and newborns are examples of recipients. Please join us and help our ministry grow!

The Prayer Shawl Ministry would love for you to join us as we welcome new knitters and hookers for our gatherings on the fourth Tuesday of each month. We will meet from 10–11:30 a.m. in the Salem Room of the Activity Building. All members of this ministry share a deep concern for others as well as the desire to share (or develop!) their love for knitting.  As the shawls are made, prayers are offered for the future recipient.  When a shawl is complete, the group blesses it; the shawl is then ready to be delivered along with a card noting the name of the knitter.  The shawls are delivered to members and friends of Highland who are in need of God’s comfort and healing.  It is our hope and prayer that the recipient of the shawl will tangibly feel our prayers and God’s love.

Here are a few ways you could be involved in this compassionate ministry:

  • Attend the monthly meeting at the church to share patterns and yarn, to enjoy fellowship while knitting / crocheting, and to bless the completed shawls
  • Make a shawl in the comfort of your own home if you are not able to get out – If you need supplies, please let Katie Paterson know
  • Donate new yarn – right now we need white or cream yarn for baby blankets
  • Donate money to buy yarn for those who will knit / crochet

If you would like to be part of this ministry, please email or call Debbie Layman, 336-724-6303.
